Can You Sell Body Advertising?
By Eric Hammer
This has to be one of the most unusual ways to make money
ever devised by anyone. Lease Your Body allows you to
sell yourself for body advertising. The company, founded in 2005
allows people to rent out various parts of their body, including
their forehead and arms for money. You agree to wear a temporary
tattoo for 30 days and in exchange, you get paid a fee, up to
The owner said the idea came to him after he saw someone sell
the right to create a permanent tattoo on his body on eBay.
It's hard to tell however whether any real advertisers have
ever gone for the program or not. Certainly the site design is
not encouraging - instead of prominently advertising the chance
to purchase someone's body (or at least to rent it for body advertising),
there are a number of Google Adsense ads running on the site.
The forum has a handful of discussions going with the most recent
post coming from February, 2011 so it does seem the owner is
still around, but the only photo of someone having gotten an
ad tattooed on her forehead was a girl whom the company paid
to do the job back in 2005.
Editors Note: As of late 2013 it seems that
the Lease Your Body website is not very active (there is still
a link for donating to a Katrina relief effort), so it is doubtful
you can even get relevant information there, let alone payment
for a temporary tattoo placement. If you search "body advertising"
you can find recent news items which might mention companies
that are still active in this field.
How Much Can You Make?
As previously noted, in theory you can make up to $5,000 at
a time from advertisers, however it doesn't seem like there's
much going on at the site. You could also try to strike out on
your own, offering to rent space on your body through eBay in
which case you will get whatever people are willing to pay for

Remember that you will have your temporary tattoo exposed
all the time and you basically become a walking billboard for
the company who purchases the right to display their advertising
on your body. This means getting the good and the bad, including
the people who will tease you for "selling your body."
You can also look into more traditional ways to sell your
body for cash (no, not that way - and shame on you for thinking
such dirty thoughts) including medical experiments and modeling.

Qualifications / Requirements
Technically, the only qualification required for this business
is that you must be breathing. And we suppose that theoretically
you don't even need that, though we sincerely hope no one would
try to arrange for advertising at their own funeral. In practice
however, the company says that being attractive and having good
photos of yourself up on the site does help a lot in getting
companies to advertise on you.
Start by signing up with the company. They seem to charge
a $19.95 fee for doing so , so you should be sure you're willing
to commit to body advertising since the money is non refundable.
